On Thursday I was sitting on the couch thinking of writing a new song, but didn't know what to write. So I grabbed my guitar case, opened it up, Put a capo on it and started strumming. And POW - a melody came to me and soon lyrics.
What does every love story have in common? A man wanting to chase a dream and woman to help him fulfill it! And so inspiration hit and within 45 minutes my newest song was written. I then grabbed my gig bag with my mobile home recording Equipment and went to work.
This is the photo I posted on Instagram of what it looked like during my song writing and recording.
I love this song. After 3 takes of recording the guitar and 10 takes of vocal recording I converted the recording into an mp3 and posted it up on YouTube and then onto my Facebook and my Twitter.
I personally have listened to this song about 15 times more or less. I really wanted to capture a catchy chorus that people would sing along to and I'm proud of this song because it does just that. I really hope you enjoy listening to my newest song! I submitted in to a songwriting competition that will be determined in August of this year. I hope it gives me some traction.
Let me know what you think of the song in comments below!
So this morning I decided that I wanted to listen to some calm music. The song Hallelujah by Jeff Buckley came on and I started singing along just enjoying myself. And then - light bulb - this is a pretty chord friendly song I'm gonna play it! So I Googled some chords and started playing, putting my own little flare to it and voila! I recorded me singing it and posted it up on the YouTube.

Today I will be recording a Driving Around Karaoke and I'm not sure yet what song to sing. Any suggestions?
I was thinking about singing:
Happy Ending - Avril Lavigne
Cowboy Take Me Away - Dixie Chicks
or anything bluesy, jazzy or country. A little help goes a long way!
I feel like I have to say this: I am a SUPER FAN of Ingrid Michaelson, Christina Perri and Lenka. Those 3 musicians inspire me and teach me. If you are not familiar with any of these lovely ladies, find them on YouTube and listen to their amazing voice and incredible lyrics! I hope to soon be covering their songs!
So, I've done the math and I have recorded and posted 8 songs on YouTube that I WROTE! Isn't that cool! Not even to mention I have not released my golden song. My golden song will be available only for purchase on my album once it i released. Enticing huh?
Again thank you for popping in, leave a comment let me know you stopped by.

Do you wonder to yourself, "Why does Melanie keep writing and posting songs on YouTube?" or "Why does Melanie keep recording her self driving around and singing karaoke" or "what is the point of all this?".
Well, I'm starting to feel that is what my friend and family are thinking. So let me clarify:
I have always had love for music since I was a young child. I learned to play the violin in like 5th grade, I learned to play clarinet by 6th grade and by 8th grade I was second chair (meaning 2nd best). I taught myself how to play bass guitar at 14 and then guitar at 16. I sang in elementary school - probably not that good - but I remember covering practically the entire Rogers and Hammerstein musical collection. 'chicks and ducks and geese better scurry...' I was in Theater and Choir in 7th and 8th grade, I was in Theater and Choir all through high school. I was in the church band all through high school.
Come adulthood I was writing songs, leading worship for small groups, church congregations and bible studies.
My dream has always been to make a living by singing, playing or writing music. I don't have to be a rock star, I don't have to win any type of award. I just want to have fun, write and sing my own songs and be able to enjoy life.
Like any artist, I want to display my craft. Almost as if you were at an art gallery gazing at all the fantastic pieces of work that held some sort of inspiration for the artist. I want to share my music with you. I want people to hear my songs and I can hope some of the songs ring true in your life. When I write a song, I tap into emotions that I have felt, witnessed or imagined to create a vivid expression of feelings and a story.
I like to think I'm a fun person. I love to laugh and experience life. Which is why I try not to take myself so seriously sometimes. Driving Around Karaoke is something fun for me to do that I hope will brighten up your day. I'm having fun recording them and I only hope you have fun watching them. I only sing songs that I already know to be as safe as possible and I have good peripheral view.

Is Patriotism a word? If not, it is now!
Hey everyone! How's it going? As Easter is far in our past and summer is fast approaching I have felt the nudge of Patriotic Songs. Memorial Day is coming up at the End of May, then 4th of July in ... Duh July, then Labor Day in September followed by 9/11 Remembrance day. I want to produce an album of Patriotic Songs to show my USA Spirit! I love the USA!
Today I have recorded an Accapella Version of America The Beautiful and it sounds pretty awesome. It will be posted on YouTube around one the above mentioned Patriotic holidays where we remember and salute our Troops.
Here is a Free Printable for the Patriotic Season from: My Fabuless Life (who I found Pinterest)
My husband and I hosted our mothers for a Mother's Day Brunch!
It was fun. I had a mimosa bar that was a hit - I should've bought more champagne!
We baked some Black Forest Bacon in the oven - DELICIOUS!
The menu included Trader Joes - Pankcake Balls, with powdered sugar, jam, Irish Butter and Syrup to fix them up real nice with! We scrambled some eggs - Oh So Fluffy! And grilled up some hash browns. It was a Great and Successful morning.
Later on the evening my sister came over and she, my mom and my hubby hopped in my car to meet my brother and sister in law at Macaroni Grill for Dinner. I tried to record a special Mother's Day edition of Driving Around Karaoke - but my Sister was not feeling it and my husband was being lame, so it was just me and my mom and the negative groans coming from the other two. They both are stoic and pretty much not performers.
Dinner was not good. Our server was not the quality the restaurant usually has, the food was eh, and for a place that specializing in cooking Pasta Noodles - they failed miserably. Highly dissappointing.
Well folks, that is my weekend in a nutshell!

So yesterday I celebrated my dear friend Amy's Birthday at none other than the Happiest Place on Earth! The weather was amazing; it was in the mid 70's with a nice cool breeze. There was a constant temperature change though. I brought a light sweater that came in extremely handy.
We rode Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, the raft to Tom Sawyer's Island (Pirate's Liar?), Haunted Mansion, Space Mountain and Buzz Lightyear's Astro Blasters. Then in California Adventure we raced cars at the new Cars Land ride and Screaming California. It was so much fun.
I daily wear my FitBit, which is amazing, so I can keep track of my physical activity. We were only at the parks for 5 hours, but we got in 15,500 steps and walked a total of 6.5 miles! I was quite impressed and tired - I was in flip flops!
Innoventions has changed since I was last there and I was pleasantly surprised with what I saw. They had a Marvel Superhero exhibit, complete with Ironman, Thor and Captain America. Check out the gallery below with my photos from the awesome adventure!
So it's Cinco De Mayo so I decided to go for a 5 mile run. I have been trying to increase my cardio endurance and have been running 2-3 times per week, usually from 2 miles to 3 miles. So, stretching out to 5 miles was a challenge.
Event Though I ran more than 3.2 miles, I made this meme of myself
